Bio

Leandro G. Barajas received the Honor degree in Electronics Engineering from the Universidad Distrital Francisco José de Caldas (UDFJC), Santafé de Bogotá, Colombia in 1998. He received his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical and Computer Engineering in 2000 and 2003, respectively, from the Georgia Institute of Technology with major in control systems and Digital Signal Processing (DSP), and minor in Mathematics.

Dr. Barajas’ work experience involved applied research and development in telecommunications, printed circuit board (PCB) design and manufacturing, Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition Systems (SCADA), embedded-controller data acquisition, automation, and control as well as biomedical measurement equipment.

During his graduate work, Mr. Barajas was a Graduate Research Assistant at the Center for Board Assembly Research (CBAR) at the Manufacturing Research Center (MARC) under the advisement of Professors Edward W. Kamen and Magnus B. Egerstedt. His current research focuses on process control optimization using hybrid controllers based on Kalman filtering, Statistical Process Control (SPC), optimal linear and nonlinear estimation, fuzzy logic, and neural networks.

Dr. Barajas is an active member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) and the Surface Mount Technology Association (SMTA). Between 1991 and 1996, he received eight E.E. Honor Scholarships and he was granted with the Francisco José de Caldas Honor Degree in 1998, the highest honor awarded to a student in the UDFJC. In 2002, he received a Surface Mount Technology Association (SMTA) Atlanta Scholarship Award and in 2003 a Georgia Tech OMED Tower Award. In 2003, Dr. Barajas joined the General Motors Research and Development Group at the Manufacturing Systems Research Laboratory in Warren, Michigan, USA, as Senior Research Engineer.
